Partnerships for the Poverty Symposium
In an effort to maximise impact of the Symposium and facilitate linkages between research, policy and practice CEPA is partnering with state and non-state organisations for the Symposium. These organisations are involved in various ways including;
- ● Being a part of the working group organising the event, which will provide exposure to these organisations
- ● Contributing to the development of the agenda and structuring the sessions
- ● Financially supporting the event and dissemination efforts after the event, including producing the publication and supporting participation at the event
- ● Contributing papers on empirical research and practice to address child poverty issues in Sri Lanka and the South Asian region
- ● Preparing a joint publication (components of which will be translated into Sinhala and Tamil) that documents the proceedings and compiles the papers presented from the event, and facilitate a dissemination strategy with CEPA
- ● Developing a set of key recommendations that can be presented to policy makers working in the sector of child development.
The Symposium is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Nutrition – Sri Lanka, Fedrich Ebert Stiftung Sri Lanka, Save the Children Sri Lanka, and Berendina Foundation Sri Lanka.
Centre for Poverty Analysis
CEPA is an independent, non-profit, Sri Lankan company that specialises in the provision of independent analysis on the causes, characteristics and impacts of poverty in Sri Lanka. CEPA aims to be at the cutting edge of independent and policy relevant analysis of poverty as well as to improve the capacities of development organisations and professionals to practice more appropriate and effective ways of reducing poverty. The organisation of the event is coordinated by the Poverty Assessment & Knowledge Management (PAM) Programme at CEPA.
Save the Children Sri Lanka
Save the Children is a secular, non political, independent, rights-based organisation working for the protection, promotion and full realisation of children’s rights. It has been working in Sri Lanka for the past 30 years in areas of child protection, education, peace and reconciliation, and lately in household economic security and networking around realising child rights. A primary intention of Save the Children’s field work is informing policy advocacy and best practice around fulfilling children’s rights. Save the Children works closely with government and in partnership with district and national non-governmental partners.
International Alert
International Alert is an independent peacebuilding organisation that works to lay the foundations for lasting peace and security in communities affected by violent conflict.
We work in over 20 countries and territories around the world, both directly with people affected by violent conflict as well as at government, EU and UN levels to shape both policy and practice in building sustainable peace.
Fedrich Ebert Stiftung Sri Lanka
The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is a private, public-interest institution committed to the ideals of Social Democracy, founded in Germany in 1925. Its main areas of focus are strengthening civil society activism, progressive social engagement and trade union empowerment.
Berendina Foundation Sri Lanka
Berendina Development Services is an independent non-profit Sri Lankan organization which together with Berendina Micro Finance Institute provider’s practical interventions to eliminate poverty of rural and plantation workers primarily of Kegalle and Nuwera Eliya districts. Through private-NGO partnership, it also conducts programs to create income and employment opportunities for youth.
